This past Thursday, November 17th, the Men and Women’s squash teams faced off against their rivals Boston University. It was a tough match on the Men’s side, but the huskies were able to edge out the win 5-4! Playing at number nine, Francisco Calderon made an appearance and took his match 3-0. Thomas Catenacci had similar success, taking his match at number eight 3-1. Viraj Shah and Karan Kishorepuria took their matches convincingly, 3-0 each.
There were a few nail biters, the first of which was the match at the six position. Kalil Menezes started his match dropping the first two games, but then fought back in to tie the game at 2-2. Unfortunately he dropped the last game 11-8 and was defeated by the BU player. At this point, Northeastern men needed to win just one more match in order to secure the win. Karan Raja played next at the five position. He won the first game, but then dropped the next two going down 2-1. He fought back in the last two games winning 11-9 and 11-8, giving the Northeastern men the win!
The last match was at the number one position. Evan Jacobson fought hard, but dropped the first two games 11-7 and 12-10. He then came back in the third game to win 11-8. Unfortunately, in the middle of the fourth game he suffered a cramp in his calf which slowed him down, and he ended up dropping the last game 11-8.
In all past encounters with Boston University’s women’s team, the Terriers have been victorious. This changed on Thursday night, however, when the Northeastern Women swept BU 9-0. All of the girls had strong performances, with most of the matches being completed in just three games. The standout player of the match was junior, Alex Berg. Alex had a tough, back-and-forth match, that she fought through, ultimately winning 11-9 in the fifth.
It was a very close and intense night all around, and we want to thank BU’s men and women teams for coming out to play.
GO HUSKIES!!
