Friday’s match started out well with senior Kalil Menezes out-scoring his opponent in 3 games at the number 9 position. The middle of the ladder faltered with positions 6, 7, and 8 losing out in well-fought 4-game matches. Meanwhile, the top of the ladder coasted by their opponents in 3-0 wins. Freshman Alex Swenson lost out at the 5 position after a very tough 5-game set, eventually dropping in a tie-breaking 10-12 in the last game. Everything came down to freshman Ben Rush who calmly swept his opponent in 3 well-played games with the support of the entire team and fan base in attendance at Wesleyan. See the box score for more details.

The Huskies then faced top-seeded University of California Berkley on Saturday morning. Despite missing a key position at the middle of the ladder with freshman Isaiah Jones falling ill, Northeastern powered through to secure a 5-4 win that came down to a final match. Each of the top players in the ladder – middler co-captain Karan Kishorepuria, freshman Ian Hay, middler Alexander Jafry, and freshman Ben Rush secured 3-0 wins against their opponents. The bottom of the ladder, each playing one position up, lost out in well fought matches with senior co-captain Will Greaves-Tunnell taking his opponent to 5 games and senior president Connor Rouan losing out in a 11-13 tie breaker in the 5th game. Again, everything came down to the last match, with freshman Alex Swenson clenching a 3-1 win after beating out his opponent in a 12-10 tie breaker. Check out the box score.

The Huskies are taking the evening to rest up in preparation for Fordham University, next up at Yale tomorrow morning in the finals at 8:30am EST. GO HUSKIES!
