Final Regular Season Matches Recap

This past week, the Men’s Squash Team played their final home matches versus Tufts University and Boston College. Both matches fell in favor of the Huskies.

Against Tufts, the Huskies played an extremely competitive and hard-fought match, winning in the end by a score of 5-4. The bottom of the ladder for the Huskies really displayed the importance of depth in a ladder, with the Huskies wins coming in at spots 5-9. Freshman Daniel Blohm recorded another win in his young career, dispatching Tufts’ Hugo Meggitt in 4, winning 11-3, 11-9, 9-11, and 15-13. Junior Greg Berson also provided a clutch win at #5 defeating Brandon Weiss in 4 as well, 12-14, 11-7, 11-4, 11-7. Sophomore Baxter Wathen easily defeated Jeremy Aronson with a bagel (11-0) and allowed a total of 4 points the entire match, 11-0, 11-3, 11-1. Sophomore Louie Sitwell played one of his best games of the regular season, allowing a total of 12 points, defeating Owen Eliot in 3 games, 11-4, 11-2, 11-6. Freshman Asad Kamal battled with Tufts’ Danny Fischer up to the last point and was able to come out on top, scoring a clutch victory for the Huskies, 11-3, 9-11, 9-11, 14-12, 11-8. The top of the ladder fought hard with two 5-game matches and a 4-game match, but were unsuccessful versus well-trained and conditioned opponents.

The Huskies played Boston College for the last game of the regular season and recorded a smooth 7-2 victory over their cross-town rivals. In his last regular home season match in the Husky uniform, Co-Captain Stan Berenshtein defeated BC Captain Nick Gadsden in 4, winning 11-7, 11-5, 8-11, 11-9. Junior #1 TJ Dyer defeated Milo Watanabe in 4 as well, 11-7, 6-11, 11-7, 11-7. Freshman Evan Jacobson had an impressive performance defeating Sam Henderson in 3 games, winning 13-11, 11-4, 11-8. Greg Berson was easily able to defeat Ted Glick in 3 games with a score 11-7, 11-6, 12-10. Baxter Wathen lost his first game 6-11, but after adjusting his strategy, returned to the court and decisively took the next three games 11-2, 11-8, 11-8. Dan Blohm used his height and skill to his advantage defeating BC’s Rob Bohn 11-9, 11-2, 11-5. Asad Kamal finished the regular season with a 13-2 record after defeating Andrew Labadini in 4, 11-8, 8-11, 11-8, 11-7.

The Husky Men have one week to prepare for Nationals at Harvard as they go into their bracket as the #1 seed with a 14-8 record on the season. Stay tuned as they gun to bring the trophy home to Northeastern!
