The Northeastern Men’s Squash team had many games this past week facing Haverford and Vassar at Vassar, MIT, Boston University, and lastly Fordham and New York University. The Husky Men have two weeks of squash left before Nationals at Harvard. We are currently ranked #32.
At Vassar, the men swept Vassar 9-0 with 3-0 game performances from all the players. Notable matches included Senior Co-Captain Stan Berenshtein allowing a total of 5-points and Junior Greg Berson allowing a total of 9 points. Freshman Nick Lailler added his second varsity victory to his career.
The Husky Men then played Haverford in a rematch which landed in favor of Northeastern 6-3. The top 6 players secured victories taking pressure off the bottom of the ladder. Notable performance from #1 Junior Tj Dyer winning his match 11-3, 11-7, 11-2.
On Wednesday, the Huskies traveled to MIT for an epic showdown where NU fell 5-4 to their cross-town rival. Victories included Stan Berenshtein at #4 winning 3-1, Freshman Dan Blohm winning 3-2 at #6, Freshman Asad Kamal winning at #8 3-0, and Middler Joakim Karlsson winning 3-1 at #9. Tj Dyer played like a man possessed diving around the court and giving no quarter, but fell short losing 1-3.
Thursday Night the Huskies hosted rival, Boston University. The Men’s team came out strong with an impressive 9-0 victory. TJ Dyer recorded his first bagel of the season at #1, winning the 3rd game 11-0. Greg Berson had an impressive finish winning the 3rd game 11-1. Sophomore Alex-Scott Barrett displayed his grit on court beating Omid Maalizedh in 5 games [10-12, 11-5, 12-10, 4-11, 11-5].
Saturday night, the Huskies traveled to Fordham to play Fordham and NYU. The huskies impressively handled an up-and-coming Fordham 9-0. Sophomore Louie Sitwell won his game after his opponent retired due to default. Middler Joakim Karlsson and Middler Benton Mitchell displayed strong skills winning at #8 and #9, respectively. TJ Dyer recorded a win after a 5-game nail-biter where each point was heavily contested [11-9, 7-11, 11-3, 9-11, 11-7]. Freshman Evan Jacobson #2, continued his win streak after easily dispatching Jeremie Keller. After losing to NYU at nationals last 5-4, the huskies defeated them 7-2. Each was heavily contested, but all players put in an impressive effort to defeat their opponents.
This evening, the Huskies face Tufts University at home, who they beat 6-3 away earlier in the season. On Thursday, the Huskies face rivals Boston College, who are ranked only one spot below NU. We would love your support before these final matches! After this week, the Huskies will take the next week to prepare for Nationals, which begins on the 14th for the men and the 21st for the women.
