The Men’s Squash Team, ranked 33rd, headed to Mt. Holyoke College this past weekend to play Haverford College and Connecticut College as part of the Amherst Pioneer Valley Invitational. Northeastern defeated Haverford, ranked 39th, with a final score of 7-2. Notable wins coming from TJ Dyer (#2) defeating Haverford’s Aaron Horowitz in 3 games [11-6, 11-4, 11-8]. Junior Co-Captain Max Kachur (#3) defeating Laurenson Ward in 4 games [11-7, 8-11, 12-10, 11-3]. Senior Co-Captain Stan Berenshtein (#4) defeated his opponent 3-0 with an uncommon double bagel [11-0, 11-0, 11-5]. Junior Greg Berson (#5) defeated his opponent 3-1 [6-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-8]. Freshman Dan Blohm, hailing from Deerfield Academy, recorded his first collegiate win easily dispatching Haverford’s Matt Rohn [11-8, 11-2, 11-5]. Freshman Asad Kamal had a hard fought 5-game match with Haverford’s John Cummings with 3 overtime games winning [8-11, 14-12, 14-12, 11-13, 11-9]. Freshman Nick Lailler defeated his opponent 3-0 in an exhibition match. Freshman Evan Jacobson’s (#1) opponent was defeated 2-0 who retired in the third game due to injury.
The Men’s Squash Team lost 0-9 to Conn College ranked 22nd in the nation. Notable games coming from the the number 1 seed, freshman Evan Jacobson lost to his opponent 2-3 in an epic rematch after defeating Conn’s John Sluder earlier in the year 3-2. Dan Blohm, after showing a strong first game ran out of steam and fell to Justin Curtis 1-3.
